Sodium Bicarbonate Really Works… for H1N1 influenza!

baking sodaOh, my. We overlooked something. ‘Respected’ woo-meister Dr Mercola proposes another use for Sodium Bicarbonate! As he believes, it cannot only cure cancer, but is also a good for ….. treating H1N1 influenza!

In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely anyone who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.

Miracles do happen!

Cancer and Fungus: Career Boost for Sodium Bicarbonate Pusher and Cancer Quack Tullio Simoncini

Struck off and convicted for fraud and involuntary manslaughter in Italy, under investigation in the Netherlands, baking soda salesman and cancer quack Tullio Simoncini is always on the lookout for more chickens to pluck. Recently, Simoncini has struck a deal with UFO/paranormal sensationalist, alien hunter and hoaxer Jaime Mausson of Mexico to push his cancer quackery in South America.

Sodium Bicarbonate Really Works! :-)

baking sodaWe have spent a lot of energy here to debunk Tullio Simoncini’s baking soda therapy as a cure for cancer.

I am afraid we may have been wrong…

Statutory Regulation Of Alternative Medicine: What Good Will It Do?

registrationIn the UK, statutory regulation of practitioners of herbal medicine and acupuncture has been advocated by a House of Lords’ Select Committee and by three subsequent Dartment of Health (DH) working groups as well as the vast majority of respondents to a previous DH consultation on this subject (the Pittilo consultation and report). The NIMH is strongly in support of statutory regulation of this sector. They feel that only statutory regulation of this sector can enable the public to identify qualified practitioners and maintain the availability of a full range of herbal medicines in herbal practice. The same discussion is going on in other countries, the Netherlands for example. For our Dutch readers: click here.

Is it true that statutory regulation will protect the public against the risks of alternative medicine?  Many people think not and we agree with them. The pitfalls and downsides of the suggested regulations have been aptly described in a submission that was sent to the Pittilo consultation. You can read it here. There is a summary on DC’s Improbable Science, as well as extensive information on the Pittilo consultation.

Is It True That Only 2 Or 3 % Of Cancer Patients Survive Chemotherapy?

Luella May

No, it’s not true: currently, the average cancer cure rate is close to 60%.

Some time ago I happened to read a discussion on Tony Isaacs’s Curezone, on the best treatment for breast cancer. The thread was started by a woman who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Tony Isaacs’ partner Luella May suggested the forum member paint her breasts with iodine to combat the cancer and advised strongly against surgery and all other forms of conventional cancer treatments:

Tullio Simoncini: Of Rodents, Research and Baking Soda

rodent of the weekIn the stats of this blog I can see from which pages people clicked to get to our blog. Sometimes I take a peek at these pages, as I did last week.

It landed me in a discussion on the ‘cancer therapy’ of Tullio Simoncini, which included some rather opinionated proponents of our Italian friend. A blog member named Byron stated that there was no evidence to prove Simoncini wrong, so I decided to tell them that research showed that sodium bicarbonate does nothing to stop cancer growth and was found even to stimulate it, giving the relevant link on our blog

Cancer, Fungus and Sodium Bicarbonate: Tullio Simoncini and How Not To Cure Skin Cancer

Atomic structure of iodineTullio Simoncini, a convicted ex medical doctor, ‘discovered’ that cancer is no more than the fungus candida albicans, and that it can be cured successfully with sodium bicarbonate. Skin cancer is also made of candida albicans, but can only be cured by local application of Iodine – not sodium bicarbonate, like all other cancers. Says Tullio Simoncini.

By the way, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that cancer is caused by candida albicans or that it can be cured with sodium bicarbonate – or with iodine for that matter.

On his website Simoncini publishes ‘evidence’ of his miracle cures. Most of these stories lack all essential medical information and are therefore virtually meaningless. However, in some cases a minimum of information is given, making it possible to find out what really happened. Invariably, heavy manipulation of data is shown, as in this case of a gentleman from Australia who suffered from skin cancer on his scalp.

Is Cancer a Fungus? Tullio Simoncini and Bladder Cancer – Again

DeathThis story is a translation of a post on a French blog that tells of the night shift of a physician – a nephrologist – who is the blog owner and the author of the article. Thanks also to WeWee for this introduction, to which we have added some details about two other patients of Simoncini.

DIY cancer treatment

On the web site of Tullio Simoncini, who claims he can cure cancer with baking soda, there is a page on DIY-treatments: it explains how patients can administer their baking soda infusions themselves in their own home. Simoncini’s Dutch patient Marjolein did this too.

Who in the world would believe such nonsense as DIY-treatment for cancer with baking soda? Well, frightened cancer patients to begin with, desperately frightened of having cancer and of the treatments they may have to undergo to save themselves. But then you hear of a ‘doctor’ who promises a 99,9 % cure, without any of the nasty side effects of conventional treatments! When your fear has made you vulnerable and gullible, it is easy to fall into this trap.

Cancer, Fungus and Sodium Bicarbonate: Tullio Simoncini and The Research that Wasn’t…

Cancer ResearchOn his website, Tullio Simoncini tells us about his groundbreaking “discovery” that cancer is a fungus – candida albicans to be precise – which can be cured with baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate). To explain the fungus, Simoncini argues this is due to “excess acidity” of the body, which allows the fungus free rein.

According to Simoncini, lowering the body’s acidity by administering baking soda cures the fungus = the cancer.

Is there hope after all?

ScienceYesterday I received some e-mails.

The first was from a lady whose mother is suffering from cancer. During her mother’s illness, this lady searched the internet for information on cancer and decided it would be a good idea to collect everything she found in one place. So she started a blog.

She says on her blog: “I wanted to have a place where all the information I was researching on the internet could be stored in one convenient location (…). In addition, I wanted to make sure that all the information was positive, so having our own blog made that easy.”  Read more of this post
